I’m Bron O’Shea.

Storytelling specialist. Communications coach. And cheerleader (metaphorically) for regional Australia - although I can do a mean cartwheel.

I’ve spent more than two decades helping people bring their stories to life, including 15 years with ABC radio where I shared over 17,000 stories from regional Australia.

I learnt very quickly how to find the story ‘gold’ that would make people care and keep them engaged.

I learnt how to make complex issues relatable, and everyday things extraordinary.

And I witnessed the power of stories as a catalyst for change.

As wonderful as that was, I could see there were a whole lot of people and organisations whose stories were going untold because they didn’t have the time, skills or confidence to tell them.

I distinctly remember an off-air conversation with a woman I hoped to interview. She gave me a powerful, heartfelt response to the issue I was covering. But when I asked if I could interview her she quickly declined.

“Oh no you don’t want to talk to me!” she insisted. “I wouldn’t be any good on the radio. How about you interview my husband instead? He knows more than I do and he’ll do a much better job of it.”

He didn’t.

The story lost its heart and lost its impact. But I found my purpose.

I founded StoryUp to help regional people tell their best stories in business and beyond. After all, humans are hardwired for stories! And if you want to change opinions, start movements, or inspire discussion, it starts with a story.
